New Milton Macular Support Group

Contacts: Malcolm Swan Tel: 01425 618925.

Our main activities centre around a monthly programme of meetings on the second Monday of each Month (2pm-4pm), normally here at The Community Centre. We try to produce a varied programme - medical, musical and social.

It is our belief that humour is often the best medicine and that social contact helps combat despair. We also organise group outings and some of our number even share holidays together ! All are welcome to attend our meetings. There is no requirement to join the National Society - but we welcome the fact that many choose to do so. All we ask is that attendees pay £2.50 per meeting towards room hire and refreshments. If you would like more details of our group or think you know someone who might then please 'phone me on 01425 618925

Malcolm Swan

S.O.S. from the New Milton Macular Support Group.

The present committee and group of helpers have run this successful local group for the past twelve years. It welcomes folks with macular degeneration but also those with other sight-related issues. We have the support of our National Macular Society in all that we do.

Some forty people meet at the Osborne Road Community Centre on the second Monday afternoon of each month to enjoy a programme of musical entertainment, talks (humorous or sight-related), quizzes, raffles etc. with the inevitable tea break.

Unfortunately our supply of able volunteers has become seriously depleted and we are urgently looking for new blood to help take the group forward. No prior knowledge of sight issues is required and committee membership is not essential. More important are the qualities of enthusiasm and empathy. Anyone with basic computer, financial, or publicity skills would be particularly welcome.

If this new challenge might interest you please contact me for a chat and an invitation to our next meeting.

Yours hopefully,
