The Community Centre is also the venue for the New Milton & District Royal Air Forces Association where we meet twice a month. Many of the local branches have closed down due to lack of committees, we on the other hand have a very strong committee but are losing members through what can only be described as natural wastage.
On the first Tuesday of each month we meet for coffee and a chance to meet up perhaps with old comrades or even discover that we might have served in the same theatre without knowing it.
The third Tuesday is given over to a speaker and the range of subjects is really very wide. In the last few months we have had such diverse talks covering the Lord Mayor of London's personal bodyguard, a lady brewer from the wartime Reading brewery to present day recycling methods as applied by the New Forest District Council.
There is a charge for each of these meetings to help defray the cost of hiring the rooms at the community centre, on the coffee morning the cost is £1:00 and coffee can be purchased at a very reasonable cost from the tea bar. At the monthly meeting the cost is £2:00 for members but that does include coffee and a biscuit and of course the cost of paying the speaker.
Visitors are most welcome to come along to either session at an additional 50p so please if you are in the area visiting or would like to renew contact with the R.A.F.A. please get in touch and come along, you will be made most welcome.
